DHC
assisted Double Truck, Inc. in creating a website for the North
Carolina Community College System to promote it's Mechanical
Engineering Technology programs and degrees. The
website was just one facet of the marketing campaign created
by Double Truck which also included flyers and posters. Because
the campaign is aimed at high school-aged students, the designs
were originally based on concert style poster instead of the
typical college promotion materials. And since all high school
students don't identify with the same kind of music, three different
music-based designs were created.

The
three musical themes chosen were rock, new wave/alternative,
and hip hop. Therefore, three different poster and flyer designs
were created, all using the same information, but with completely
different designs. This created an interesting challenge for
the website: How do we create one website to promote MET while
there are three distinct styles being used in print to promote
the website? Further, how do we do this and make it easy for
the client to update the copy as needed?

 |
There
are basically three sites residing at the domain, each one using
different designs, but the same copy. Upon arriving at the URL,
the browser randomly chooses a style, or "groove" to
enter. Once inside the user can choose their groove from any
page in the site, jumping to the corresponding page in another
groove. Each page is programmed to load the copy from outside
text files. Therefore, when the client makes a change to the
copy in one file, all three grooves are updated with the new
copy. All
this is done without using databases, which saved the client
money in hosting.

This is one of the interior pages for the "rock groove".
This page uses a map with client-side image maps to inform the
user which schools service the county they live in and provide
a link to that school's website. Below the map is a list of all
the community colleges, their contact information, and which of
the MET degrees they offer.

Here is the same "Where to MET" page in the "new wave/alternative" groove.
Notice the map changes colors to match the groove.
